She looks great – but please don’t attempt this look if you’re older than 20.
Just sayin’.
I’m not sure about this one. Kim looks amazing as always of course, but this photo does illustrate the challenge that high waist jeans present and the imbalanced look they often create.
Low rise jeans can emphasize love handles, and of course show your underwear (my biggest pet peeve when it comes to this denim cut). But high waist jeans are not a magic solution! High waist jeans can make your thighs and behind appear HUGE!
So even if they have the advantage of compressing your tummy, they’re still not necessarily flattering, certainly not if you’re curvy.
Personally? Even though high rise, flare jeans are a hot trend right now, I don’t plan on wearing them. I actually think they’re just as challenging as low rise jeans or skinny jeans!
OK, so this is an old photo (1999) – but we think this is priceless! Denim overalls are tricky – yet somehow SJP manages to look cute!
I never tried to hide the fact that I have found the long rein of skinny jeans utterly depressing. I said it before – I dislike skinny jeans. I think they look great on waif-like, long and lean types, but on most of us, the cut is challenging on a good day, and very unflattering on a bad day.
Skinny jeans tend to make your thighs look bigger. If you’re curvy, you can look BIG. Even if you’re not. On the other hand, flared jeans balance out curvy thighs and so are much more flattering.
Of course, there IS such a thing as too much flare- it can become bulky and unflattering too. Another issue that I have with the current trend of flared jeans is the high waist – high waist jeans can present another set of challenges, including making your butt look huge!
Sigh. Is there such a thing as the perfect pair of jeans?
I think there is. I haven’t changed my mind about this one since starting this blog. Medium rise, dark wash, boot cut jeans with a good pocket placement – that’s as close as it gets to the perfect pair of jeans.
