Would you pay $1000 for a pair of designer jeans? I mean, if you could. If this were within your budget, if you were a millionaire – would you be okay with paying $1000 for a pair of denim?
Personally, I find the idea appalling, but I guess I’m clueless. Just look at a typical copy of Vogue Magazine and you will see that the price tags most of us are used to seeing on clothes – $20, $40, maybe $100 or a real splurge on a $150 pair of designer jeans – are nothing compared to what some people are paying for their clothes. Why shouldn’t a pair of high-end Hudson jeans cost $1000 when this Armani dress costs $1100 and this Oscar de la Renta dress is priced at a whopping $3750?
Maybe I’m naive, but the mere thought that people actually think it’s acceptable to pay these prices for clothing is giving me a headache. I especially worry about young working women who ought to be saving for a down payment, for retirement, and are instead pressured into thinking that they need to spend thousands of dollars each year on clothes in order to look good.
As I said, I am probably clueless. I know: I don’t get it. Designer clothes are special… amazing.. well made. Designer jeans are one of a kind. Paying ten times more than you would pay for non-designer clothes? Totally justified because of the higher quality and (let’s face it) the coolness factor.
$1000 jeans? I think I’ll pass.
